The judges are within the Department of Justice of the Executive Branch.
President Donald Trump removed 4 officials from the immigration court system on Monday. Two of those fired were in the Executive Office of Immigration Review and another was an immigration judge, who vets requests for asylum from migrants. The immigration court system is within the Justice Department and under the purview of the president.
One of the executive orders signed by President Trump on Monday ended birth-right citizenship, which caused babies born in the U.S. to foreign nationals to automatically become American citizens.
President Trump’s transition team also alerted Administrator David Pekoske of the Transportation Security Administration that he was released effective as of the president’s swearing-in.
The former administrator issued a message to TSA employees Monday morning, saying, “I will sincerely miss being part of this amazing agency and having the opportunity to serve alongside this incredible team. It has been an honor of a lifetime!”
